One Voice Music
Ravin Jayasuriya founded One Voice Music in 1996 in order to provide high quality education and training in Brazilian and Cuban percussion for all levels of ability.
OVM is firmly established in the UK as one of the main sources for developing percussion skills and is recognised for providing life changing opportunities.
OVM has a team of highly respected tutors who are specialists in particular aspects of Brazilian & Cuban music. Throughout the year, we run and organise a variety of intensive residential & non-residential workshops & modular courses.
In 2011, we formed Drumswork, a teambuidling arm of One Voice Music, to provide businesses with a range of drumming and percussion activities. Making music through ensemble percussion is the most direct and effective way to energise a group of people, and help them to work together towards a common goal.
OVM is one of the leading UK organisations specialising in Brazilian & Cuban percussion training & development.
Since we formed, thousands of people have participated in our workshops and courses which have included projects, performances, several long courses such as Roots of Cuba & Afrobrazilian Percussion Studies, as well as a number of shorter workshops such as Just for Congas & Just for Bata.
OVM tutors reach people of all levels of ability, recognising how differently individuals learn and ensuring that all who take part are encouraged and informed so that they make real progress in their understanding of the music, further their abilities and completely enjoy their learning experience.
We create a safe, supportive learning environment where participants can develop their technical and musical skills as well as finding the courses beneficial in increasing confidence and personal development
Many students have gone on to set up their own community drumming groups, become teachers themselves and/or gone on to become professional players.
OVM has collaborated on a number schools percussion & dance projects including with Creative-Partnerships in Tees Valley where a number of participants from different schools in the region attended a series of workshops culminating in a performance at Stockton Carnival.
